Fu-Chih
Hsu, MS, PhD
Dr.
Hsu serves as the Director of Operations at Scientific Methods
Inc. He has over 12 years of experience in environmental
microbiology and was responsible for establishing
and directing the operation of a state of the art microbiology
laboratory unit for one of the nation's largest drinking
water testing facilities (Environmental Health Laboratories).
He has extensive experience in the application of
oligoprobe hybridization techniques for classifying viruses
to discriminate fecal pollution sources and in the determination
of viability of protozoan parasites such as Cryptosporidium using in situ hybridization detection of 16S ribosomal
RNA. He has also directed studies of viral pathogen
transport and survival from individual household septic
systems, and has developed presence/absence and direct membrane
filtration methods to detect low levels of coliphages in
surface and ground waters. The detection methods
he developed have been modified and validated by the USEPA
in national round-robin studies, resulting in USEPA methods
1601/1602.
